Dragons #8, 9, 10, 11, and 12

Image
I haven't been on here in a long time. I have been quite busy.    I finished my art portfolio and all of my dragons about the time I published my last entry here. However, as I said a few months ago, for logical reasons, I would show the pictures in the order I did them, in an orderly fashion. Here they are.    #8: Girl with Wild Dragon        This is a colored pencil drawing. The original picture that I drew this from pictured the dragon with a broken wing, or a piece of it missing, with a thorn in it. I decided I would draw the dragon healthy instead. :)     The girl is gently holding the dragon's hand..... #9: The Woman and the Dragon    In the Bible, the book of Revelation has many symbols representing things that God says will happen in the end times. Chapter 12 of Revelation has a woman and a ferocious dragon as symbols.     Revelation 12: 1-4    "And a great sign appeared in heaven: a woman clothed with the sun, with the moon under her fe

More Songs

The Quiet Girl- Alone River    This song is another instrumental composition for the hammered dulcimer.                              And Don't Forget (Solo Clarinet Version)         This is a song my friend and I wrote together. It is a duet for the piano and the clarinet. He made and posted a solo piano version, so I decided to make and post the solo clarinet version.           The Quiet Girl- The Rhythm of the Hammering on the Carpet           This is the song that I wrote based on the "rhythms" I heard when I heard the carpet people working. I described this in an earlier entry, "The Rhythm of Carpet Work." This was done on my songwriting software, Musescore. The instruments used on the software are the woodblock, the iron pipe, and the cuica.    © 2013, The Quiet Girl. All rights reserved. Unauthorized copying is punishable under Federal Law.

Dragon #7: Beast In the Wilderness and homemade studio equipment

Image
I am currently working on the last dragon for my art concentration, #12. I also have 3 songs that I recorded, and I have made a homemade pop filter.    This is the 7th dragon of my concentration. It is a colored pencil drawing of a white dragon sitting on a rugged bank next to water.           This was very detailed and took quite awhile. Here is a close up of the dragon and its head and face.         Homemade Recording Studio Pop Filter    Recently I got two books from the library about studio recording. I want to learn as much as I can about it. The books are Home Recording for Musicians for Dummies by Jeff Strong and Home Recording Power by Ben Milstead. The first day I read Home Recording for Musicians for Dummies , I already learned something and put it into practice. I learned that you can make a pop filter from a simple coat hanger and pantyhose.    A pop filter is used in front of mics to eliminate popping sounds and bumps so they do not get into

The Distant Song Stuck in my Head and Dragon #6: Blue Dragons in the Ice

The Quiet Girl- The Distant Song Stuck in my Head                                                             Artist: The Quiet Girl                                                          Song: The Distant Song Stuck in My Head                                                         Album: Sample Studio Recording "Reflections"    This is the other one of my studio recordings that I have done so far with my new studio. It is an original song written and played by me, an instrumental song for the guitar. On this recording, I should have turned the volume up, but I did better on the editing.     I played this on a steel string guitar, fingerpicking the strings with my bare fingers.     About the song: years ago, I heard Bach's Prelude in D Minor on a CD, played on classical guitar. I didn't have this stuck in my head, but I did think about all the notes that made up the song and the way the gu

Thoughtfulness

The Quiet Girl- Thoughtfulness   Artist: The Quiet Girl Song: Thoughtfulness Album: Sample Studio Recording "Reflections"          I have 2 studio recordings I have made now, as I wrote earlier. This is one of them. This is an original song I wrote called "Thoughtfulness", written for the hammered dulcimer and played by me. I am learning to use the studio well and it took forever for me to learn how to edit and export music, but I know these things well now. I am getting better and better at it, and I am better at it even now than I was when I made this recording, which was only about a month ago.    Recording in a studio is different from performing. Of course, you always have to practice to sound as good as possible, like if you were to perform in front of an audience. But when you are recording, if you make a mistake and it takes you 10 tries to get a part right, after you are done recording, you can keep the 10th try where you got it rig

Dragon #5: The Cold Smoke

This is a version I did of another picture. The painting I did was done in acrylic.      © 2013, The Quiet Girl. All rights reserved. Unauthorized copying is punishable under Federal Law.

Dragon #4: The Battle

Image
This is the fourth dragon painting. It is acrylic. It is my version of Gustav Dore's painting of the Leviathan. I like the action of the angel with the sword and the Leviathan dragon coming up angrily out of the water.    This is the original artwork by Gustav Dore:    And this is the painting by me:    And the good....    ...And the evil.     I am also getting better at recording with my studio set. I have now learned how to edit songs and have 2 recordings that I have done! © 2013, The Quiet Girl. All rights reserved. Unauthorized copying is punishable under Federal Law.

Dragon #3: The Dragon Gargoyle

Image
This is an original acrylic painting based on a photograph of a gargoyle on a building. It took a long time for me to get this to look this 3D, but it was worth the effort to try to paint the lights and darks of a sculpture. © 2013, The Quiet Girl. All rights reserved. Electricks

Image
This is a song I wrote a year ago. It is an "electric" song that is played with synthesized instruments made by a computer. It was done entirely on a songwriting software called Musescore, which is made to put your songs into sheet music form, play them back to hear what they sound like on particular instruments, and print them. The real purpose of the playback is to hear a synthesized version of the instrument(s) playing the song. Of course, the software has synthetic versions of strings, brass, woodwinds, percussion, guitar, piano, etc., and for instruments like these, I strictly believe in playing the real thing. But this software also has electronic instruments, and I thought it would be cool to mess around with those and write a song with them. For me, I didn't need a fancy synthesizer or elaborate equipment, just a computer, Musescore, and the electric sounds that make up this song.    I recorded this on a Flip video camera, converted the video to mp3, th

Dragon #2: Medieval Tapestry

Image
This is the second dragon of my series that I am working on. I painted it to look like a tapestry in the Middle Ages. It is an original acrylic painting as well. © 2013, The Quiet Girl. All rights reserved. Unauthorized copying is punishable under Federal Law.

The Rhythm of Carpet Work

Image
The carpet guys came and replaced the old carpet. I sat there and heard them hammering away as they were doing the work of pulling up the carpet, putting the new carpet down, etc. I sat there listening to it when I heard one sequence of hammering that sounded like it could be in rhythm. I thought about that one sequence over and over and over again and analyzed it. I shortly was able to put it into a rhythm in sheet music form, like this:     I put it in 6/8 timing, and the first measure is 4 dotted eighth notes, which is quite syncopated.   I also heard another sequence of hammering, analyzed it, and again wrote it down in music form, and it went like this:    It could be written like the picture as I wrote it here, or the last note of the first measure could be written as a pick-up note.    I heard another tool going as the guys were working. This tool did not sound like a hammer, but it sounded like it screeched against the floor. The sequence the tool m

Dragon #1: Dragon in the Moonlight

Image
In my art class, I am doing a portfolio called a concentration, which is twelve paintings or drawings of one theme. I am working on twelve different dragon paintings and drawings. I continue to get better and better at them and I like it. I am working on number ten now and wanted to show them one at a time in order.    This is the very first painting, done over a year ago. It is an original acrylic painting.     The green blob was done on Microsoft Paint to blot out my name for safety purposes.      Here are two close ups: one of the moon and one of the dragon.      © 2013, The Quiet Girl. The Logic of Life

Image
I write songs. However, I don't write songs with lyrics a lot because I don't like to sing, I like to play instruments. But here are the lyrics of one I wrote. Who knows, maybe someone who sings will sing it someday. Searching for a meaning, seeing how things work Either this is right or it isn't, what is the real reason why If this is this way, then what could possibly happen What is the exact solution Contemplating all of the possibilities Analyzing many different situations Things must be put in order, the many different places we're in The many things that we must do, day after day The common sense that we must have, thinking things through from start to finish This is this way for this reason, that's the logic of life This is really the meaning, this is how it works Correct reasoning explains it, this is the real reason why We can make predictions that this could possibly happen This is the exact solution Contemplating all of the possi
