Dragon #2: Medieval Tapestry

Image
This is the second dragon of my series that I am working on. I painted it to look like a tapestry in the Middle Ages. It is an original acrylic painting as well. © 2013, The Quiet Girl. All rights reserved. Unauthorized copying is punishable under Federal Law.

The Rhythm of Carpet Work

Image
The carpet guys came and replaced the old carpet. I sat there and heard them hammering away as they were doing the work of pulling up the carpet, putting the new carpet down, etc. I sat there listening to it when I heard one sequence of hammering that sounded like it could be in rhythm. I thought about that one sequence over and over and over again and analyzed it. I shortly was able to put it into a rhythm in sheet music form, like this:     I put it in 6/8 timing, and the first measure is 4 dotted eighth notes, which is quite syncopated.   I also heard another sequence of hammering, analyzed it, and again wrote it down in music form, and it went like this:    It could be written like the picture as I wrote it here, or the last note of the first measure could be written as a pick-up note.    I heard another tool going as the guys were working. This tool did not sound like a hammer, but it sounded like it screeched against the floor. The sequence the tool m

Dragon #1: Dragon in the Moonlight

Image
In my art class, I am doing a portfolio called a concentration, which is twelve paintings or drawings of one theme. I am working on twelve different dragon paintings and drawings. I continue to get better and better at them and I like it. I am working on number ten now and wanted to show them one at a time in order.    This is the very first painting, done over a year ago. It is an original acrylic painting.     The green blob was done on Microsoft Paint to blot out my name for safety purposes.      Here are two close ups: one of the moon and one of the dragon.      © 2013, The Quiet Girl. The Logic of Life

Image
I write songs. However, I don't write songs with lyrics a lot because I don't like to sing, I like to play instruments. But here are the lyrics of one I wrote. Who knows, maybe someone who sings will sing it someday. Searching for a meaning, seeing how things work Either this is right or it isn't, what is the real reason why If this is this way, then what could possibly happen What is the exact solution Contemplating all of the possibilities Analyzing many different situations Things must be put in order, the many different places we're in The many things that we must do, day after day The common sense that we must have, thinking things through from start to finish This is this way for this reason, that's the logic of life This is really the meaning, this is how it works Correct reasoning explains it, this is the real reason why We can make predictions that this could possibly happen This is the exact solution Contemplating all of the possi

A Classical Piece of Music

I have played the clarinet for quite a while now. A few days ago, I played a piece by the English composer Malcolm Arnold called the Sonatina for Clarinet and Piano . This is a recording of it. It took quite a bit of practice, but it was worth it.    Thank you to my piano accompanist as well. © 2013, The Quiet Girl. All rights reserved. B'Elanna Torres and T'Pol: Star Trek Character Portraits

Image
I like Star Trek . I like seeing the different alien races and the different space missions the characters go on. I have seen episodes from the original Star Trek , The Next Generation , Voyager , and Enterprise . I haven't seen any Deep Space Nine episodes, though.    I have done artwork of two characters from these shows. B'Elanna Torres    B'Elanna Torres is a half-human, half-Klingon from Star Trek: Voyager . She is the starship engineer.    This is an original acrylic painting on canvas paper. T'Pol T'Pol is a girl Vulcan from Star Trek: Enterprise . I don't know what rank she is in the show, though. This is an original drawing done with simple Crayola Twistables and an ordinary sketchbook. Live Long and Prosper! © 2013, The Quiet Girl. All rights reserved. The "Fast" Society

Image
The world we live in is very fast paced, or at least I think so. People everywhere are always looking for a faster way to succeed and achieve. Our society says that "The faster, the better!" It is shoved in your face constantly.      At fast food restaurants, for example, people can complain and get impatient and rude when they don't have their food for even a short period of time. Well, a short amount of time to me may be a long time for other people, especially in a setting like that. And a fast food restaurant is called FAST food for a reason. But there is a difference between knowing that the employees are reasonably preparing the food in the right timing and doing it right and expecting the food to be there immediately, thinking only of the time frame in which things are happening.     Many people take ordinary things and turn them into a "race" and see who can accomplish a goal first. In our society, being the first person to do something is highl
