Tom DeLonge Murdered His Taylor.......
Shortly after I bought my beloved, precious Taylor GC3 in early 2014, and I was exploring new music and how to play some alternative rock songs acoustically, I came upon a video titled "Tom DeLonge Breaks His Guitar." I had heard of Blink-182 before, but had never listened to them. Out of curiosity, I decided to watch it. Out came Tom's guitar. The Taylor had some words written on the top that I will not repeat on this blog. I began to sadly wonder why someone would treat such a beautiful guitar like that, but continued to watch. Tom played a new lick he had written. The guitar sounded lovely. Then he commented on how the guitar's bridge had started to malfunction. A band mate then told him if it didn't get fixed that the bridge would come off, hitting his arm with 150 pounds of string tension. This resulted in Tom growing furious, shouting, "No!!!" in a funny and upset way. Then the sad part. Tom says, "Well, I'll just have to break this guitar." The band then walks outside, where Tom proceeds to murder his guitar. It took quite a few tries as he smashed it on the pavement, but eventually it was in pieces. I sat there at my dorm desk in shock. Then I was more unsettled as it got run over by a truck. They then swept up the remains and threw it in the dumpster. My first thought was, "Do you realize what you just threw away? I just saved up money for quite a while to get one of those!" I am sure if Bob Taylor saw that video, he would have wept. Tom could've taken it back to the factory if he wanted to. If I had received that guitar, I would have first wiped off all the Sharpie art, then I would've taken it to the Taylor factory to get the bridge and top fixed. It just saddens me so much to see instruments being murdered, being the proud owner of many musical instruments, including 2 Taylor guitars that get played nearly every day, and that I would not let want for anything.
